There was much to celebrate at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy today as post-16 students received another excellent set of examination results, reflecting their hard work, resilience and commitment over the past two years.
Principal, Mr Matt Jones, praised students and staff alike for their achievements:
“We are incredibly proud of our students. This exceptional group of young people has worked tirelessly throughout their studies and achieved impressive outcomes across all subject areas.
At A Level, students achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate, with an average grade of C+. These results demonstrate the breadth and depth of achievement across the cohort. Almost half of all grades awarded (45%) were at A*-B, while 75% were achieved at A*-C.
We are equally delighted with the success of our students studying Applied General and Vocational qualifications, who make up around half of our Year 13 cohort. Despite the increased rigour of these courses in recent years, our students have continued to achieve exceptional outcomes.
An outstanding 90% of grades were awarded within the Distinction*-Merit range, with students achieving an overall average grade of Distinction. Furthermore, 75% of grades were secured in the highest possible bracket of Distinction*-Distinction.
While there are some particularly impressive individual achievements, success looks different for every student. What matters most is that our young people are now equipped with the qualifications, skills and confidence to take their next steps, whether that be higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
Every student should be enormously proud of the dedication and perseverance they have shown throughout their post-16 journey. These results will open doors to exciting opportunities as they move forward into the next stage of their lives.
I would also like to publicly thank the fantastic staff across our academy. Their expertise, commitment and unwavering support have played a crucial role in helping our students achieve these outcomes. The care, guidance and ambition they demonstrate every day is truly remarkable.
Congratulations to all our students on your achievements. You have earned every success, and we are immensely proud of you.”
Mrs Snell (Head of Sixth Form), has a further message for our students and everyone connected with the academy:
On behalf of the Sixth Form team, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all Year 13 students. As Mr Jones has already expressed, we are immensely proud of everything you have accomplished. During your time in Sixth Form, you have consistently shown exceptional determination, resilience, and personal development. These strengths will undoubtedly continue to serve you well as you take your next steps beyond school.
Initial signs suggest that this year’s strong results have once again opened doors to a wide range of outstanding destinations for our Year 13 students, with the majority of university applicants gaining places at their first-choice institutions. We are also especially pleased to celebrate our first student in several years securing a place at Cambridge University.
Whatever your next steps may be, the Sixth Form team wishes you every success and happiness for the future. We look forward to following your journey and hearing about the many accomplishments and experiences that lie ahead.
