We have built a culture of high expectations, strong relationships and excellent behaviour, enabling our students to thrive academically, socially and personally. Our most recent Ofsted inspection recognised this ambition, noting that “Pupils are proud to be part of this extremely ambitious school. Pupils thrive at this school and are eager to attend.” We are proud of this recognition, but even prouder of the inclusive, respectful and ambitious culture that lies behind it.

About our School
Heanor Gate Spencer Academy is a secondary school and sixth form in Heanor, Derbyshire.
As part of the Spencer Academies Trust, we work alongside other schools in ensuring that we deliver the best education possible. Our students achieve the maximum of which they are capable, provided by our aspirational curriculum and highly committed staff who ensure that the quality of learning remains exceptionally high.
We expect our students to utilise our extensive and varied range of experiences and methods of learning; these include ‘immersion days’ and our varied catalogue of trips, including residential visits, to maximise their progress, allowing every learner to flourish and fulfil their potential.
Over recent years, we have made substantial investments in ICT and we are proud to have been graded as Outstanding by Ofsted and accredited as a World Class School in 2023. In 2023 our students achieved the best attainment outcomes in our history and this culminated in our students securing some highly competitive destinations at both Post-16 and Post-18.
