GCSE Results Day 2026

For the second week running, students at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy are celebrating excellent achievements, this time in their GCSE and Level 2 vocational qualifications.

Mr Jones, Interim Executive Principal, said:

“I am delighted to celebrate the achievements, resilience and commitment our students have shown throughout their time at Heanor Gate School.

This year, 43% of students achieved a Grade 5 or above in both English and Mathematics, exceeding the FFT contextual targets set for this cohort. In addition, 50% achieved a Grade 5 or higher in English and 53% secured a strong pass in Mathematics. These outcomes represent the culmination of years of hard work and reflect the dedication our students have shown both in and beyond the classroom.

While headline figures only ever tell part of the story, I am immensely proud of what this group of young people has achieved. Success is about much more than a single measure; it is about the progress students make, the challenges they overcome and the confidence they develop as learners and young adults. Today’s results reflect those qualities and the determination our students have demonstrated throughout their educational journey.

We have also seen excellent achievements across our wider curriculum, including among students studying vocational qualifications. As qualifications have become increasingly rigorous and demanding, our students have risen to the challenge, securing outcomes that reflect their hard work, perseverance and commitment over a number of years.

The most important measure of success on results day is whether students have secured the qualifications they need to take the next step in their lives. I am therefore especially pleased that today’s results will enable our students to move forward confidently to their chosen destinations, whether that is sixth form, college, apprenticeships or employment.

We are also excited to see record levels of interest in Heanor Gate Sixth Form, with more than 109 applications from students who do not currently attend the school. This reflects the growing confidence that students and families have in the quality of education, opportunities and support we provide, and we look forward to welcoming a new cohort in September.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the exceptional staff across our school. Today’s success has only been possible because of their unwavering commitment to our students. The countless hours they dedicate before and after school, during holidays and at weekends demonstrate not only their professionalism and expertise, but also the genuine care they show for every young person in our community. Their belief in our students and determination to help them succeed are at the heart of everything we do.

Finally, I would like to congratulate all of our students collecting their results today. You should be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved. Behind every set of grades is a story of hard work, perseverance and personal growth, and it has been a privilege to watch you develop into the young people you are today. We are immensely proud of every one of you and look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish in the future.”
