We’ve had another fantastic day on our second Immersion Day of the year, where students were able to experience a variety of exciting activities that extended beyond the usual classroom curriculum.
Year 7 students visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where they had the chance to see giraffes, polar bears, tigers, lions, and more. It was a brilliant opportunity for them to learn about wildlife and conservation while seeing these incredible animals up close. For those who stayed at school, there was a fun-filled day of activities exploring similar themes.
Year 8 had an inspiring visit from rapper Kimba, who ran sessions on the history of rap, creative writing, and performance. Students had the chance to write and perform their own raps, giving them a unique and creative way to explore language and self-expression.
Year 9 took part in a ‘Pop Art’-themed day within the DTVA faculty, where they got creative designing phone cases and personalised mugs. Alongside this, some students had the opportunity to broaden their experiences with sessions in self-defence and steel pan music, adding variety to their day and encouraging them to try something new.
Year 10 students spent the day developing their computer skills, including spreadsheet use and exploring the applications of AI. Computer Science and iMedia students enjoyed an enrichment trip to the National Videogame Museum in Sheffield, where they learned about the history of gaming, participated in workshops, and, of course, tested out some classic games. Another group of students participated in a full day of public speaking workshops, where they gained valuable skills and had the opportunity to deliver speeches to their peers—a nerve-wracking but rewarding experience!
Year 11 students focused on preparing for their upcoming exams. They completed essential science practicals and mock language speaking exams, alongside sessions on effective study skills and tips for managing their well-being during the busy exam season.
Our Sixth Form students developed important life skills, including driver awareness, organ donation, sexual health, drug and alcohol awareness, and self-defence. They also got hands-on in the kitchen, preparing meals to help them develop their independent cooking skills in preparation for university life.
Our #TeamHeanor values were on full display throughout the day. A big well done to all our students and staff for making it such a memorable experience! We’re already looking forward to our next Immersion Day on 19th June.
