Here at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy we are committed to equality. All schools within the Spencer Academies Trust are on the same journey to uphold the four core objectives below.
HGSA are keen to expand this further and ensure it is representative of our demographic, with this in mind we will be liaising with various stakeholders within the year to ensure we have clear steps forward to develop this in line with the context of our school and local community.
If any member of our community has a keen interest or would like to be part of a working group please get in touch with Mr D. Ingram.

Heanor Gate Spencer Academy’s Equality Objectives 2022-26
As an academy our vision is to uphold the principles of equality as set out in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy. Our equality objectives (below) are a set of values that we live and breathe to ensure our school community becomes better educated, better represented and celebrates better all areas of EDI.
These priorities include:
- Achieve a staffing and leadership profile which reflects the diverse communities we work with and serve.
- Promote a cultural understanding, awareness and improve respect of different religious beliefs between different ethnic groups across our academy community.
- Promote a rich understanding and acceptance of tolerance and acceptance of all EDI categories, including improving the provision for all students and staff protected by EDI characteristics
- Reducing the incidence of any use of homophobic, sexist and racist language by students in the academy.
- Actively close gaps in attainment and achievement between students and all groups of students; especially students eligible for free‐school meals, students with special educational needs and disabilities, looked after children and students from minority ethnic groups.
- Continue to improve accessibility across the academy for students, staff and visitors with disabilities, including access to specialist teaching areas.
Explicit links to achievement and engagement of disadvantaged students and those with SEND are also made in our school improvement plan.
These objectives are currently subject to review with our stakeholders with clear actions prepared to continue into and beyond 2023/24 academic year.
